Psychological safety

Psychological safety in a work community means that every member of the work community, regardless of their job or position, feels that they can safely express their views, make mistakes, ask questions, make suggestions, experience appreciation and be themselves.

In a psychologically safe work community, people are encouraged to discuss and share information and experiences. Different perspectives are valued and even difficult issues can be raised. Mistakes are seen as development tools and means of joint learning. Unfinished thoughts or ideas are not rejected, but are worked on together.

Typically, the result is a genuinely developing, more efficient, more learning and more functional work community. In a safe work community, interaction and communication work better, people learn more, commit to their workplace and feel better.
